Think Outside The Box

Typical cliche right? But it's so important.... Every artist should 'think outside the box'. What box? The vocal booth where you sing. Instead of just going into the booth and singing, try thinking about what makes a hit. Think about the production.. about what melody lines and rhythms would work on the track at hand. Think about the kind of song you're trying to make. Think about other hit songs that kind of match what you're trying to do to gain insight and inspiration. Research music.. I mean really research music. You'll start finding similarities between hit songs... sooner or later you'll start using some of these techniques in your own way and your recordings will become potential 'hits' on purpose.
