Artists.... if you sing or rap, I'm sure you have a favorite star you look up to or tried to emulate at one point. From Michael Jackson, to Diana Ross.. Dr. Dre or Stevie Wonder, or even Prince, John Lennon or Led Zeppelin... Mariah Carey, Teena Marie, Eminem, and the list goes on.
So you've heard their songs, and probably seen some Youtube videos of their live performances. Have you actually sat down and took notes? Like literally... with a pad and pen? You might be surprised what you can learn if you treat it like a classroom. Actually study their words.. where they say them, how they say it, and what music is behind them when they say it. Study their live shows... how they move, what they move.. and what gets the reactions from the crowd. Study that artist's image.. Youtube is a beast when it comes to studying video of your favorite performers. You should even study their teams... www.wikipedia.org is the beast for this. Most of the time their teams are the reason for their successes. You may come across different marketing techniques you can apply to your own career.
Basically if you can focus on everything except how good your influences sound (lol), you'll learn a lot that you can apply to your own personality...your own image, and your own music. Happy Recording.
